OSU Library Fines

Regular circulating items owned by the Bromfield Library and other OSU libraries accrue fines only if they have been requested by another patron (and recalled by the library) or have become long overdue.

  • Recalled items accrue fines at a rate of $10 per day, up to a maximum of $100
  • If an item is 30+ days overdue, the patron will be charged $140/book or $170/journal or AV. If the item is returned the fines will be waived.
  • Closed reserve items (e.g. textbooks--placed on reserve for a specific course or equipment) accrue fines at rates which vary based on the length of the loan indicated on the sticker on the front of the item (2 hours, 3 days, 1 week).

OhioLINK and SearchOhio Fines

When a OhioLINK or SearchOhio item is more than 30 days overdue...

  • OhioLINK: a lost book replacement charge of $75 + a $ 50 processing fee ($125) will be billed to the patron. If the item is returned the fine will drop to $50.
  • SearchOhio: a lost book replacement charge of $50 will be billed to the patron. If the item is returned the fine will drop to $25.
  • Fines are $.50/day for non-lost items
  • ALL patrons--including students, faculty and staff--are subject to OhioLINK and SearchOhio fines or replacement costs.

Library users are able to appeal the charges applied to their accounts. A response can be expected in approximately 5 business days. If a book in question was borrowed from the Columbus campus, questions can also be directed to the OSU Libraries Business Office (614) 292-2400.

Note: Patrons who want to replace a lost book must still fill out the Fine Appeal Form and include in the “Reason for Appeal” section that they would like to “replace the book and have any remaining fines waived.”

Patrons from other OhioLINK or SearchOhio libraries and institutions, like the Mansfield-RIchland County Public Library, are eligible to check out materials* from the Bromfield Library.

Patrons must show their home library cards or university IDs and supply any additional information if prompted (e.g. a pin number). Fines and renewals are handled by the patron's home library. Check out times correspond to OhioLINK loan periods.
