the BLIC explained!

features of and wayfinding through the BLIC

What is Closed Reserve?

Closed Reserve is a special section of books, DVDs, course readings, or other material that instructors make available to their students outside of class time. These materials can be used only in the library for two hours at time. Materials from other campuses may be put on closed reserve, as well as an instructor's personal copy.

If you are a student, come to the main desk and have your course and instructor's name ready.

If you are an instructor, you may read more about how to put items on Closed Reserve here.

What is Interlibrary Loan?

Interlibrary Loan allows patrons to borrow, or receive electronic copies of, materials from other libraries. From the University Libraries website:

"We provide Interlibrary Loan and Article Express (document delivery) services through the ILLiad request system to Ohio State faculty, staff, and students in degree-granting programs across all Ohio State campuses.

  • Use Interlibrary Loan to request materials that are unavailable in the Ohio State University LibrariesBorrowing physical items from other libraries takes 6 to 9 days on average to receive.
  • Use Article Express to request scholarly articles and chapter PDFs from Ohio State and non-Ohio State collections. Most article and chapter scans take approximately 1 to 3 days for electronic delivery."

To use these services, you will need to log in to ILLiad.

Back in your library login, ( here ) you will be able to manage your ILLiad holdings and requests. Click on "Log into ILLiad Account" under "My Interlibrary Loan".

From there: You can see PDFs you have requested, as well as the status of any materials in transit.
