Use the Phone System

Making a Local Call 

  • Press 9 (to dial out) and then enter the phone number, ex. 9-419-755-8282 or 9-911
  • Use this method to dial an NCSC number

To call an OSU number (Mansfield or Columbus only)

  • Mansfield, dial the last 5 digits of the number, ex. 5-4331
  • Columbus, dial the last 5 digits of the number, ex. 2-6262

To place caller on hold 

  • Press Hold and hang up.
  • To take off hold, pick up phone and select the line that you placed on hold (e.g. 5-4331 at the circ desk)

To transfer a call

  • Press transfer
  • Dial the extension (ex 5-4326)
  • Press transfer again and hang up
  • E.g. transfer + 5-4326 + transfer
  • To speak to the person to whom you are transferring the call (for example, you are transferring a patron to the librarian and want to speak to her first), wait until the person picks up before hitting transfer the second time, e.g. transfer + 5-4326 + speak to librarian + transfer

A list of commonly dialed numbers are kept by the circulation phone.

Long distance calls can only be made by regular staff
